Monthly or annual Coursera Plus? At the US example prices of $59 per month and $399 per year, annual costs less from the seventh paid month. A short individual subscription may still cost less than either Plus plan.
These USD examples use standard prices checked on 19 October 2026, not a current local checkout quote. Enter your own prices and intended study period below, or see the monthly-versus-annual table. A lower total alone is not a reason to commit to a year.

US defaults are shown first. Changing currency clears all prices and the inclusion check: enter every quote in the selected currency, with the same tax basis. Use either a decimal point or comma (for example, 29.99 or 29,99), without thousands separators. No exchange rates or local prices are supplied.
Add programs at different monthly prices
Use another row only when a program has a different monthly price. Leave both fields blank in unused rows, and count each paid program-month once.

Defaults use published US standard prices in USD, checked 19 October 2026. These are not local checkout quotes. You can replace all amounts with your own quotes. Include tax in every amount or exclude it consistently; the calculator does not calculate tax. One learner, up to 36 consecutive paid months, excluding trials and changing introductory rates. A plan beyond 12 months assumes the entered annual quote repeats at renewal; recheck the actual future price before every renewal. The individual comparison supports up to six monthly price groups, with no more than 144 program-months in total.
Coursera Plus monthly vs annual: when does annual cost less?
Multiply the monthly quote by the number of paid months you expect to use. Compare that total with the whole annual charge: annual is cheaper only when paid months × monthly price > annual price. Equality means the same total, with different payment timing.
| Paid months | Monthly Plus total | Annual Plus upfront | Lower total in this example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $59 | $399 | Monthly by $340 |
| 6 | $354 | $399 | Monthly by $45 |
| 7 | $413 | $399 | Annual by $14 |
| 12 | $708 | $399 | Annual by $309 |
Local quotes and offers can move the break-even point. This fixed example does not change when you edit the calculator; use the calculator result for your own prices. Check that every planned program is included, and compare individual subscriptions before choosing Plus.
Compare like with like
“Program-months” counts the individual subscriptions you would actually pay for. If two programs run at the same time for three months, that is six program-months but only a three-month study period. If you finish them one after another, it might instead be six months of calendar time. Plus costs follow that calendar period; individual costs follow each paid program.
If your programs have different rates, open “Add programs at different monthly prices” and split the paid program-months between up to six price groups. For example, three months at $49 plus three at $79 costs $384. Leave unused rows blank and do not count the same month of the same program in more than one group. The calculator cannot price programs outside Plus or determine whether your learning schedule is realistic.
Check the billing details before switching
Not every offering is in Plus. Coursera also warns that buying Plus does not automatically cancel an existing individual subscription. Check both the course’s current inclusion badge and your account’s active plans. Otherwise a theoretically cheaper switch can leave you paying twice.
The monthly offer has a seven-day trial; the annual offer has a 14-day refund period. These are different arrangements, and eligibility and terms matter. Promotions may make a checkout quote lower than the defaults. Open “Compare your own Plus checkout prices” to enter the quote you are actually considering. Confirm its duration; a short introductory rate cannot be assumed to last for your entire study plan.
A lower total is only useful if the plan fits
Compare the minimum purchase that covers your intended learning. The annual plan can cost less than many monthly renewals, yet still cost more than finishing one program quickly. Equally, a short period of overlapping study can change the comparison in favour of a broader subscription.
Recalculate when your timetable changes. A delayed start, a break or a program outside the included catalog can change which option has the lowest total. This tool compares subscription arithmetic; it does not assess course quality or promise savings at checkout.
